Frequently asked questions

How do I log a walk?

On Today, tap Scan workout. Take a photo of each screen as your walking pad display cycles through time, distance and speed, or choose photos from your library. Tap Read photos, check the numbers, then tap Save workout.

Which photos do I need?

Time, distance and speed. Any two of those are enough, because Padlog works out the third. Calories are read if you photograph that screen too, and estimated from distance if you don't.

Tips for a good photo

Fill most of the frame with the display, hold the phone roughly level with it, and avoid glare from lights or windows. Several screens in quick succession is fine. Padlog reads them all together.

What do the labels on Check your stats mean?

Read from photo means Padlog read the number from your display. Worked out means it calculated the value from your other stats, so give it a quick check. Not found means it couldn't read that screen, so type it in. Tap any value to change it.

Which treadmills work?

Padlog is designed for walking pads and under-desk treadmills with bright LED digit displays that cycle between time, distance, speed and calories. If yours isn't read well, email us a photo.

Can I log a walk without photos?

Yes. On the scan screen tap Type it in and enter your time, distance or speed. Any two of those are enough; Padlog works out the rest.

How are calories worked out?

If you add your weight in Settings → Your details & goal, Padlog calculates calories from your weight and distance using the standard walking energy equation (about 0.5 kcal per kg per km). That is usually more accurate than the treadmill's own figure, which assumes a generic body weight. Without a weight, Padlog uses what your display shows, or about 30 kcal per km.

How are steps counted?

Steps are estimated from distance using a stride length based on your height (or 0.762 m if you haven't added it). If you connect Apple Health in Settings, Padlog uses the steps your iPhone or Apple Watch measured during the walk instead.

Miles or kilometres?

Choose in Settings → Distance units to match your treadmill display. Your history converts automatically.

How does the weight-loss goal work?

Pick a weekly target and Padlog converts it into a weekly step goal using your weight and stride, assuming about 3,500 kcal per pound. It counts walking only, so what you eat matters too. These are estimates, not medical advice.

How do goals, streaks and badges work?

Set a weekly step goal in Settings and follow it on the This week card. Walking on consecutive days builds your streak. The Awards tab shows your personal records and 16 badges. When a walk beats a record or unlocks a badge, you'll see a celebration.

Can I change the date of a walk?

Yes. Padlog uses the date from your photos when it can. Use the arrows on Check your stats to move the walk to another day before saving.

How do I delete my data?

Settings → Delete all Padlog data removes your log from the device. Workouts already saved to Apple Health are managed in the Health app.
